Doctor Jobs in Qatar for France-Trained Doctors

Doctor jobs in Qatar are open to France-trained physicians through the QCHP licence, issued today by the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP). This page explains how French consultants, specialists, and GPs get hired by Qatar’s hospitals, what the licence involves, what a QAR offer is worth in euros, and how our consultancy guides you from the first eligibility check through to activation in Doha.

  • Founded in 2015
  • 28 specialists on the team
  • 80+ hospital partnerships across the Gulf

Can a French-trained doctor work in Qatar?

Yes. Every doctor in Qatar is licensed by the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) at the Ministry of Public Health, which replaced the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP) in 2019, though many job adverts still call it the QCHP licence. DHP’s physician guidelines place the French CES, DES/DESC and DIS in Category 1, its top tier for specialty qualifications, with one year of post-specialty experience required.

The exam step is where you need to be careful. The guidelines say Category 1 specialists do not sit the qualifying exam, but DHP Circular 2025/24, dated 30 December 2025, states that all practitioners take the qualifying exam for their specialty, with exemptions listed only for Qataris, children of Qatari women and graduates of Qatari institutions. French GPs sit the exam unless they hold an accepted equivalent such as PLAB 1, USMLE Step 2, MCCQE Part 1 or the AMC MCQ.

This differs from the UAE, where Tier 1 French specialists are exam-exempt for doctor jobs in Dubai, doctor jobs in Abu Dhabi and doctor jobs in Sharjah, and from doctor jobs in Saudi Arabia, where a French DES is an SCFHS Group 1 qualification. We check your exact position against the current DHP rules before you spend anything, starting with the Gulf medical licence eligibility checker.

What do doctors earn in Qatar, in euros?

0% income tax on salary
Qatar publishes no pay scale for expatriate doctors, so read every offer as a package. Hamad Medical Corporation lists these benefits alongside a tax-free salary:
  • Housing allowance
  • 35 to 50 paid vacation days, plus 5 days of Eid holidays
  • Annual ticket home
  • Educational support for children
  • End-of-service award
Monthly offer (QAR), tax-freeApprox. per month (EUR)Approx. per year (EUR)
20,000€4,911€58,933
30,000€7,367€88,400
40,000€9,822€117,867
60,000€14,733€176,800
90,000€22,100€265,200

These are example offers converted at QAR 4.0724 per euro (13 October 2026), not salary bands, because your offer depends on employer, grade, and specialty. For a French doctor the tax position is the real difference: in France, employment income can reach a 45% top income-tax rate plus social charges of around 9.2%, while Qatar does not tax employment income. The doctor grade and salary estimator gives a figure you can compare against your current take-home, and doctor salary in Qatar breaks pay down by specialty.

How QCHP licensing works for a French doctor

The QCHP license for France-trained doctors follows a set order, and for French applicants the exam step is the one to plan around. The sequence is:

1

Eligibility assessment

We map your French qualification (DE and DES) to a DHP category and confirm whether the qualifying exam applies to you under the current circular.

2

Primary source verification first

DHP asks you to start verification before registration or evaluation, through an approved provider such as DataFlow. It covers your degree, postgraduate qualifications, registration, experience letters, and good standing, with sworn French-to-English translations where needed.

3

Evaluation

DHP checks your qualifications and experience against its guidelines. The evaluation fee is QR 100, and DHP reviews a complete file within 25 working days.

4

Qualifying exam, if required

The DHP qualifying exam is a Prometric computer-based test of 150 multiple-choice questions over three hours. The cut score is 60% for GPs and mostly 65% for specialties, and the fee is US$238.

5

Job offer and documents

The licence is issued against a licensed Qatari facility, so you need a confirmed role. You also provide a verified certificate of good standing from the Ordre des Médecins (CNOM), police clearance, and a medical report.

6

Licensing and activation

DHP reviews the licensing application within 15 working days, and the licence activates once you are in Qatar with a residency permit.

Fees, timelines, and retakes are broken down in QCHP licence cost and processing time and QCHP exam or exemption. DHP expects working English for practice, and the requirement for your category is confirmed during your eligibility assessment.

Which specialties are hiring in Qatar?

Hiring in Qatar concentrates in the hospital specialties that its major providers are expanding, and your specialty also affects your exam position. Demand has been steady for:

  • Paediatric subspecialties
  • Critical care
  • Obstetrics & gynaecology
  • Radiology
  • Anaesthesia
  • General practice

The main employers include Hamad Medical Corporation, Sidra Medicine, and Aspetar in sports medicine, alongside the growing private sector. Where the roles sit is covered in Qatar hospitals for doctors and Hamad Medical Corporation.

Because a French specialist’s exam position depends on the specialty, the demand for your field and your DHP route are worth reading together rather than separately. We do that mapping for you at the eligibility stage.

How our consultancy supports French doctors in Qatar

We work on the job search and the licence together, which is the practical answer to Qatar’s main hurdle: you cannot activate a QCHP licence without a Qatari employer, and you cannot usually secure the right role without a credible licensing plan. We advise you on hospitals hiring in your specialty, prepare your DataFlow and QCHP file, and guide you through the steps to activation and relocation.

We have worked in Gulf medical licensing and careers consultancy since 2015, with a team of 28 and partnerships across 80+ hospitals. Doctors describe their moves in our doctor interviews and testimonials.

Living in Doha as a French doctor

Doha suits doctors relocating with families, and the practical questions tend to be schooling, housing, and community rather than the work itself. French schooling is well established: Lycée Bonaparte is under contract with the AEFE and Lycée Voltaire, a French-Qatari school, is AEFE-approved. Most expatriate doctors live in the newer residential districts near the main hospitals, and banking, residency, and family sponsorship are part of the move.

Neighbourhoods are compared in best places to live in Qatar, and schooling options in international schools in Qatar.

Check your QCHP route before you commit

Tell us your specialty and where you trained, and we will confirm whether you sit the QCHP exam or qualify for exemption, the pay band for your grade in QAR and euros, and the roles open now.

Frequently asked questions

How can a French doctor work in Qatar?

A French doctor works in Qatar by completing primary source verification, passing DHP evaluation, sitting the qualifying exam where it applies, and holding an offer from a licensed Qatari facility. The licence activates on arrival with a residency permit.

Do French doctors have to sit the QCHP exam?

DHP’s guidelines exempt Category 1 specialists, which include French CES, DES/DESC and DIS holders, but Circular 2025/24 of 30 December 2025 lists exemptions only for Qataris, children of Qatari women and Qatar graduates. Confirm your status with DHP in writing before you plan around an exemption. French GPs sit the exam.

How much do doctors earn in Qatar in euros?

Qatar publishes no pay scale for expatriate doctors. As a guide, a QAR 30,000 monthly offer is about €7,367 and QAR 60,000 about €14,733, tax-free, before allowances such as housing.

Is a doctor’s income in Qatar tax-free for French doctors?

Qatar applies 0% personal income tax, so a doctor’s salary in Qatar is tax-free at source. French tax residents should confirm their own position with a tax adviser, since obligations depend on residency status.

Qatar or the UAE: which is better for a French doctor?

It depends on your qualification. The UAE treats Tier 1 French specialists as exam-exempt under the Unified PQR, while Qatar places French specialty diplomas in Category 1 but its December 2025 circular narrowed the listed exam exemptions. Pay and tax-free status are broadly comparable, and we compare both against your profile at the eligibility stage.

How long does QCHP licensing take?

After primary source verification, DHP states 25 working days for evaluation and 15 working days for licensing, plus any time for the qualifying exam.

Do I need a job offer before I can get licensed in Qatar?

Yes. QCHP licensing is tied to a Qatari employer, so you need a confirmed role for the licence to activate. This is why we work on the job search and the licence together rather than in sequence.

Which doctor specialties are most in demand in Qatar?

Demand concentrates in paediatric subspecialties, critical care, obstetrics and gynaecology, radiology, anaesthesia, and general practice, with Hamad Medical Corporation, Sidra Medicine, and Aspetar among the main employers.
