Government hospitals run through SEHA and the wider PureHealth network, private groups like Burjeel and NMC have built quaternary care facilities alongside them, and the DOH regulates both. What that means for an Irish consultant is bigger, better-resourced hospitals, longer patient lists, and a hiring culture closer to public-sector medicine at home than to boutique private clinics.
Two factors push more Irish doctors this way than the Dubai numbers suggest. Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, the emirate's flagship government hospital, was built in partnership with Mayo Clinic and runs 30 specialties out of 742 beds, which reads to an Irish specialist like a familiar tertiary environment. Most Irish-trained doctors qualify for DOH exam exemption, because Ireland is on the DOH's recognised list.
