Doha is where Qatar's hospitals and doctors are based

Doha holds the great majority of Qatar's population and almost all of its hospitals, so for a doctor moving to Qatar, Doha is effectively the destination. The city runs a mix of the large public network under Hamad Medical Corporation, the specialist Sidra Medicine campus in Education City, and a set of private hospitals. Because Qatar licenses nationally, the QCHP licence you hold for a Doha hospital is the same one used anywhere in the country.

This page focuses on Doha itself, the hospitals, the working picture, and life in the city. For the full national licensing process and the country-level view, our medical job consultancy in Qatar sets out the QCHP route in detail, and this page links to it where the licensing steps apply.

Where you will work

The Doha hospitals where doctors work

Doha's hospitals divide between the public network and private and specialist providers. The two below are the ones Allocation Assist works with most closely, alongside the city's private hospitals.

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC)

Runs the largest group of hospitals in Doha and across Qatar, established in 1979 and accredited by Joint Commission International across its hospitals. It covers secondary and tertiary care, emergency services, and specialist centres, and is the single largest employer of internationally trained doctors in the country.

Sidra Medicine

Part of Qatar Foundation, a specialist women's and children's hospital in Doha's Education City. It recruits internationally trained consultants and specialists across paediatric and women's health services.

Doha's private sector also includes hospitals such as Al Ahli Hospital and Doha Clinic Hospital. The Qatar hospitals guide profiles the city's major facilities in more detail.

Living in Doha

Living in Doha as a doctor

Doha suits doctors who want a compact, safe, and family-oriented city with a large international community. It is a modern Gulf capital on the coast, with established expat neighbourhoods, international schools, and Education City as a hub for medicine, research, and universities. English is widely used in hospitals and daily life, which eases the move for internationally trained doctors and their families.

The strongest financial draw is that income is tax-free, so a Doha salary is received in full. Housing, schooling, and daily costs vary by district and lifestyle, and hospital packages usually cover accommodation or a housing allowance, annual flights, and medical insurance, which offsets much of the cost of settling in.

Licensing

Licensing to work in Doha

Doctors in Doha license through the QCHP, now the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) under the Ministry of Public Health, using the same national process as the rest of Qatar. You complete DataFlow verification, sit the Qatar Prometric exam where your scope requires it, and apply for evaluation on the DHP portal, with the licence issued once a Doha employer sponsors you.

Since 1 January 2026, DataFlow primary source verification has been mandatory for every applicant with no exceptions, so starting it early is the main way to keep the timeline short. The Qatar exam is specific to the country and cannot be replaced with a DHA, DOH, or SCFHS result, though holders of certain recognised qualifications may be exempt. The full stage-by-stage detail is in the QCHP licensing guide.

Pay and packages

Doctor pay in Doha

Doha salaries are tax-free and set by specialty, grade, and employer rather than a national scale, with consultant and senior surgical roles at the top of the range. Government and private employers structure packages differently, and most include accommodation or a housing allowance, annual flights, medical insurance, and end-of-service benefits alongside the basic salary.

Because there is no personal income tax, the full salary is take-home pay before allowances are added. The Qatar salary guides break down what doctors earn by specialty and grade.

Our role

How we support your move to Doha

The consultancy matches you to a Doha hospital and runs the licensing alongside the search, starting your DataFlow verification early since it now sits on the critical path for every applicant. The team checks your eligibility and scope, tells you whether the Qatar exam applies, manages DataFlow and the DHP evaluation, and puts your CV to Doha hospitals while verification runs. Hospitals pay the placement fee, so this support costs the doctor nothing, and one team stays with you from the eligibility check through licensing, interview, and contract.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Doha a good place for a doctor to live?
Doha works well for doctors who want a compact, safe city with a large international community and strong family amenities. It has established expat neighbourhoods, international schools, and Education City as a medical and academic hub, with English widely used in hospitals and daily life. Income is tax-free, which is one of the main draws for internationally trained doctors.
Which hospitals in Doha hire international doctors?
The largest employer is Hamad Medical Corporation, which runs the biggest network of public hospitals in the city and is JCI-accredited across its hospitals. Sidra Medicine in Education City recruits for paediatric and women's health, and Doha's private sector includes Al Ahli Hospital and Doha Clinic Hospital. Together they hire internationally trained consultants and specialists across most fields.
Is working in Doha the same as working anywhere else in Qatar?
For licensing, yes. Qatar has one national regulator, the QCHP or DHP, so the licence for a Doha hospital is the same one used across the country. In practice, though, almost all of Qatar's hospitals are in Doha, so for most doctors moving to Qatar, Doha is where the roles and the daily life actually are.
What is the cost of living in Doha for a doctor?
Living costs in Doha vary by neighbourhood and lifestyle, covering housing, schooling, and daily expenses, but two things ease the picture for doctors. Income is tax-free, so pay is received in full, and hospital packages usually include accommodation or a housing allowance, annual flights, and medical insurance, which offsets much of the cost of settling in.
Do I need a Doha job offer before I can get licensed?
You can complete DataFlow verification, the Qatar exam, and a preliminary evaluation before you have a job, but the final QCHP licence requires employer sponsorship. Once a Doha hospital sponsors you, you may first receive a provisional licence valid for up to six months, and you cannot begin clinical practice until it is issued.
How soon can I start work at a Doha hospital?
For most doctors the full process runs to around three to seven months, driven mainly by DataFlow turnaround, which is now mandatory for every applicant. Starting DataFlow early, while you prepare for the exam and apply for jobs, is the most effective way to shorten the timeline before your Doha start date.
Will my family settle easily in Doha?
Doha is set up for family relocation, with a wide range of international schools, family housing compounds, and healthcare, and a large expat community across many nationalities. English is widely spoken, and the city is regarded as safe, which is a common reason doctors choose Doha for a longer-term move.
Is a UAE licence valid in Doha?
No. Doha is in Qatar, which licenses through the QCHP or DHP, so a UAE licence from the DHA, DOH, or MOHAP does not cover it. You apply for a Qatar licence through the DHP portal, and your DataFlow verification and core documents from a UAE application can usually be reused, which shortens the process.
