Al Ain's premier tertiary government facility, established in 1979 and JCI-accredited. It is a 509-bed, physician-led hospital staffed by Western-trained, North American and European board-certified, and Arab board physicians, all DOH-licensed. Tawam is the region's major oncology, neonatology, and trauma referral centre and a teaching hospital affiliated with the UAE University College of Medicine and Health Sciences. Its services run from emergency medicine, critical care, paediatrics, and obstetrics and gynaecology to adult and paediatric oncology, IVF, paediatric intensive care, nuclear medicine, and pain management.
One of the largest hospitals in the city, also operated by SEHA and part of PureHealth. It opened in 1978 as Al Jimi Hospital, named for the district it sits in, and is a tertiary referral hospital with several hundred licensed beds. It provides medicine, obstetrics, paediatrics, surgical, and critical care alongside a trauma program, holds JCI accreditation awarded in 2010, and works as an academic medical centre with the UAE University.
A 100-bed private multispecialty hospital opened in 2007, serving the Al Ain region and towns across the nearby Omani border. Beyond medicine, surgery, paediatrics, orthopaedics, and obstetrics, it offers coronary artery bypass surgery, bariatric surgery, and five advanced operating rooms, with imaging that includes an open MRI, a 64-slice CT scanner, and 4D ultrasound.
The city's specialist sector also includes the Royal Health Heart Center, a cardiovascular centre in Al Jimi, and the Czech Rehabilitation Hospital and Al Ain Medical City Rehabilitation Hospital, which deliver inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation.

A DOH licence is the registration you need to practise anywhere in the Abu Dhabi emirate, Al Ain included, and eligibility depends on your qualifications, grade, and country of training. Doctors who hold a recognised specialty certificate from a Tier-1 country, which includes the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and much of Western Europe, may be exempt from the DOH licensing exam. That exemption applies to the exam only, does not remove the other requirements, and does not apply where there has been a gap in practice of more than three years. Doctors in Al Ain earn tax-free salaries on the same DOH basis as the rest of the Abu Dhabi emirate, with government roles at Tawam and Al Ain Hospital set on the SEHA scale and private hospitals negotiating packages individually. Packages typically add accommodation or a housing allowance, annual flights, employer medical insurance, 30 days of paid leave, and end-of-service gratuity, and living costs in Al Ain are generally lower than in Abu Dhabi city or Dubai.
